Document Summary

Chromosome theory of inheritance: genes have specific locations along chromosomes, and these chromos undergo segregation and independent assortment. Morgan conducted an experiment with flies, that told him that traits may be lnked to its sex. Some alleles might be located specifically on x chrmosomes, and vice versa. Fathers pass all their x chromosomes to daughters, mothers can pass their x chromosomes to either their daughter or son. If an x-linked trait is due to a recessive allele, a female expresses the phenotype only if she is homozygous for that allele. Any male receiving the x linked trait from their mother will express the phenotype; therefore more males have x linked recessive disorders. A colour blind daughter may be born to a coulour blind father with a carrier spouse. Duchenne muscular dystrophy has a gene on the x chromos, and can lead to death due to the lack of the protein dystrophin. Hemophilia: absence of the protein required for blood clotting.
