Document Summary

Human population growth depends on how resources are used and distributed. Material resource=wood, food, oil, minerals, land (living space), renewable energy (electricity from solar, wind hydro etc) fresh water, non-renewable energy (fossil fuels: oil, has, coal) Ecosystem service= clean air, flood control, stable climate, etc. Growth rate of human population will always exceed the growth rate in their food supply. According to malthus human population size is regulated and limited by its food supply regulation of human pop are either voluntary (birth control, abstinence, delayed marriage) or involuntary (famine, disease or war) Desired standard of living: higher standard of living, higher the resources are consumed: fewer resources increase in carrying capacity. In pop = consummation of resource = pollution and destruction of biodiversity & ecosystem. Result env crises, droughts, floods, crop failure, climate change and polluted landscapes. Ecological footprint quantifying the amount of resource used by each individual.
