Document Summary

Biological evolution has brought us from a sark planet inhabited solely by microbes to a lush world of species. De nition of biological evolution - genetic changes in organisms across generations, which lead to modi cations in appearance, functioning or behaviour of organisms through time. Evolutionary process are relevant to many aspects of environmental science, including pesticide resistance, agriculture, medicine, and environmental health. Biological evolution results from random genetic changes, and it may proceed randomly or may be in uenced by natural selection. The individuals of the same species vary in their characteristics (it"s due to differences in genes) From one generation to another through time, species will evolve to possess characteristics that lead to better and better success in a given environment. A trait that promotes success is called an adaptive trait, or an adaptation. Mutations - accidental changes in dna that range in magnitude from the addition, deletion or substitution of single nucleotides to the insertion.
