38 % of earth is agriculture - the practice of raising crops and livestock for human use/consumption. Most of our food is from cropland and rangeland (grazing livestock) Agriculture first appeared around 10 000 years ago. Agriculture is intensification - increase carrying capacity and productivity of a given unit of land. Oldest form = subsistence agriculture - producing only enough food for themselves. Today, industrialized agriculture (monoculture) = 25% of world"s cropland. Food security = guarantee of food to all people at all times. Arable land = suitable for the annual planting of crops. Undernourished = less than 90% of daily calories needed. Malnutrition - shortage of nutrients body needs (undernourished and overnurished people) o o. Intensification - new technologies permit greater resource more land into production production o.
