Aristotle was a greek philosopher who lived before the time of christ. From 1215 to 1340, europeans believed that they could harmonize all ideas with christianity, however there were some people who were not willing to subordinate their ideas to. Christianity, and popes and kings argued about their limits of power. Medieval thinkers, writers, musicians and artists attempted to reconcile faith and reason, which led to a new method of study known as scholasticism. Kings and other rulers found news ways extend their in uence over subjects through taxes, courts and representative institutions to control them. Popes issued new laws for christians and established courts to nd and punish those who did not follow church teachings. Both secular and religious authorities persecuted jewish people and lepers. As a result of these efforts the empire weakened, and the papacy was forced out of rome.
