Chapter 2 the evoluion of management theory. Evoluion of modern management began in closing decades of 19th century, ater industrial. Revoluion (europe, canada, usa: small workshops run by skilled workers replaced by large factories, large factories had hundreds/thousands of unskilled employees to control machines. Many managers were technically skilled but unprepared for social problems that occur between people. Job specializaion; the process by which a division of labour occurs as diferent employees specialize in diferent tasks over ime (increases eiciency and leads to higher organizaional performance) Scieniic management; the systemaic study of relaionships between people and tasks for purpose of redesigning the work process to increase eiciency. Believed producion process is more eicient if amount of ime and efort each employee spent to produce unit of output could be reduced.
