Document Summary

Be very cautious if you attempt to change something that"s been kept in the society for as long as it"s been there, that"s kept it going this far. The thing you want to change may not bring the results you intended it to bring. Prohibiting ivory trade only endangered elephants even more because the value or their tusks went up, and so more people were after them because of it. The changes that apparently made monarchy more anachronistic actually increased its importance as an important traditional integrative institution during a transitional period . In attempting to get rid of monarchy, the institution itself played a role in retaining the loyalty of those groups who opposed the change, telling them that the new social/political change could be adapted to. You can still adapt even if the current system is gone. As a result, monarchy actually became important even though it was in the process of being dismantled.
