Chapter 2 the research enterprise in psychology. How research in psychology is conducted via the scientific approach, ethics. A good theory will generate a host of testable hypotheses: empirical: a method of research that can be verified by observation and experiment. The scientific approach assumes that there are laws of behaviour that can be discovered through empirical research. Goals of the scientific enterprise: psychologists & scientists share three sets of goals for research, measurement & description: identify & develop method of measurement, understanding & predicting: hypothesize about the relationship between two variables. Theories help scientists integrate their information into a coherent whole (the big picture).
