Document Summary
Synesthesia is a condition where perceptual or cognitive activities trigger other experiences. One sense is coupled/paired with another (for example, seeing red every time you hear the word train". Or listening to music can lead to an emotional response known as emotional synesthesia). We all experience certain events or feelings when we perceive. Perception is the selection, organization & interpretation of sensations. Psychophysics: the study of how physical stimuli are translated into psychological experiences. Gustav fechner, scientist working at germany"s university of leipzig, wanted to know for any given sense; what is the weakest detectable stimulus? (ex: min amount of light before you see light) A threshold is a point between stimulus intensity where there is & isn"t a detectable effect. What he found was that probability of detecting stimulus increased as intensity of stimulus gradually increased. Therefore, an absolute threshold is the stimulus intensity that is detected 50% of the time.
