Using a naturalist method, pepler & craig were able to obverse natural bullying episodes on the school playground. They observed ~35 teacher-nominated aggressive & ~30 teacher-nominated socially competent children, who were an average of 9. 9 years old. They also installed microphones on target children who picked up audio of conversations. Half (50%) of all bullying episodes involved verbal aggression, 29% involved physical aggression & Boys were involved in bullying at a rate double that of girls. Those marked as aggressive did not engage in more bullying than those marked as socially competent. Peers were involved 85% of the time, either as aggressors or witnesses. Two greek words; psych (soul) & logos (study). In the 16th century, psyche started to refer to the soul, spirit or mind (distinguished from the body).
