Document Summary
A tentative statement about the relationship between two or more variables. Variables are any measureable conditions, events, characteristics, or behavior that are controlled or observed in study: application & control. Is a system of interrelated ideas used to explain a set of observations. Steps in a scientific investigation: formulate a testable hypothesis, select the research method and design the study, collect the data, analyze the data and draw conclusions, report the findings. Advantages of the scientific approach: clarity & precision, relative intolerance of error. Experimental group: consists of the subjects who receive some special treatment in regard to the independent variable. Control group: consists of similar subjects who do not receive the special treatment given to the experimental group. Extraneous variables: any variables other then the independent variable that seem likely to influence the dependent variable in a specific study.
