Document Summary
The term psychology came from two greek words -> psyche, the soul, and logos, the study of a subject. Psychology is as old as the human race. Term wasn"t used by majority until the early 18th century. Ancient greek philosophers, socrates, plato & aristotle debated issues relative to psych. i. e. , separation of mind and body, nativism and empiricism. Some of their theories helped shaped ones of today, such as aristotle"s theory of memory is the foundation of many theories of memory today. His conception of memory suggested that memories are a result of association; similarity contrast and contiguity. Psychology today- a sprawling multifaceted science and profession. Many date the emergency of psychology as a distinct discipline to the work of wilhelm wundt. A new science is born: contributions of wundt and hall. Wundt mounted a campaign to make psych an independent discipline rather than a stepchild of philosophy and physiology.
