In canada, ~40% of homicides occur within family or intimate relationships. Nuclear family consists of cohabiting man and woman who maintain a socially approved sexual relationship and have at least one child. Traditional nuclear family a nuclear family in which the husband works outside the home for money and the wife works without pay in the home. ~80% of mothers with school-aged children are in the paid labour force, only a small minority of canadian adults live in traditional nuclear families today. Some sociologists, many of them functionalists, view the decreasing prevalence of the married-couple family and the rise of the working mother as an unmitigated disaster. In their view, rising rates of crime, illegal drug use, poverty, and welfare dependency (among other social ills) can be traced to the face that so many children are not living in two-parent households with stay-at-home mothers.
