Sex segregation: barbara reskin women"s and men"s concentration in different occupations, industries, jobs, and levels in workplace hierarchies vertical segregation: segregation associated with differences of education, experience, and skill within the same field. In law there are secretaries, clerks, paralegal professionals, lawyers and judges, among other workers and the genders are represented differentially in these hierarchically ranked occupations. Horizontal segregation: the segregation within occupations in different fields that are roughly similar in terms of educational and skill requirements: eg. Truck driving and secretarial work, or engineering and teaching. Different occupations are seen as more appropriate for one gender or the other, and this women and men are guided, pushed, or occasionally shoved into specific positions. If more men enter a job field, the wages go up but if more women enter then the wages go down.
