Special form of power that involves the ability to get people to follow you. Individual characteristics: crucial for leadership role, some people just born to be leaders: surgency, conscientiousness, emotional stability, argreeableness/cooperativeness. Leader behaviour and styles; leaders often have two different type of behaviours: emphasizing accomplishment of specific tasks, emphasizing expressive activitists. Dual leadership: leadership will be in the hands of more than one person. Vroom and yetton: four styles of decision making: authoritarian, consultative, delegative, group based. Follower/situational characteristics: type of behaviours will affect who will follow you them. Situational factors: draws attention to characteristics of the group and environmental factors but also the nature of interactions between leader and follower as well. Individuals that are more likely to be task orientated and use more directive decision making are likely to be accepted as leaders. Filly and house: studies found leaders who were more supportive and participative had more subordinate satisfaction, productivity, lower turnout and lower grievance rates.
