Both close to the same age used same substance in different forms but patterns and consequences of drug use were different. Class, race and gender important in shaping experiences and consequences of cocaine use more so than the cocaine itself. Differences between monique and becky huge, even without drug use. Monique grew up in poverty and provided for her family, prostitution and drugs. Becky privileged, opportunity and promise existed for her, enjoyed middle class life. Gender and setting women gained access to cocaine through men, men usually have or sell and women buy from them.
