Document Summary
Injury and death are common sights for commercial drivers. But they also see beautiful sights and experience gratification seeing the end part of their work (seeing a product they delivered being used) Truckers have gadgets that track their time, the truck"s speed and the operation of its engine (sometimes the truckers have to include notes explaining the variation in the graph) Truckers try to be as efficient as possible even through there are many excuses for slacking off. They wanted to do well enough not to embarrass themselves but rebellion against authority figures was expected and even a source of pride. They sought respect as men and excessive subservience was not considered being manly. One time rebels worked with considerable diligence and offered little resistance. Found that being rebellious when young and suddenly being hard workers was mainly found in the trucking company, not at warehouses or at the army.
