Document Summary

5. 5: applications of ideal gas law molar volume, density and molar mass of a gas. 5. 7: gases in chemical reactions stoichiometry reaction. 5. 8: kinetic molecular theory a model for gases. 5. 2: pressure the result of molecular collisions. Pressure: is the force exerted by gas molecules as they collide with surfaces around them per unit of the surface area. Pressure can also be defined as the constant collisions that occur between atoms or molecules and the surfaces around them. Pressure = f(cid:2925)r(cid:2913)e (cid:2885)re(cid:2911) ; 1 pa = 1 (cid:2898)(cid:2923)2. The total pressure exerted depends on many factors: Number of gas particles in a given volume (concentration/density): less number of gas particles means that there will be a low amount of pressure. Barometer: is an evacuated glass tube that has its tip in mercury. The liquid inside is forced upwards due to the atmospheric pressure on the surface of the liquid while gravity tries to push the level of mercury down.
