Organizational perspective studies why a media organization produces the kinds of contents it does. I. e. : the way a media organizes & divides labour-> directly influences content it produces. Us-> workers put in more hrs than any other industrialized country. Work lives= defined by whom we work with & for. Organization: system/network of ordered relationships & coordinated activities directed toward specific goals. (1) structure-> underlying framework that shapes an organization; includes 3 things: Hierarchy-> specific arrangement of positions; depends on authority. Some ppl= more decision-making powers than others-> creates hierarchy. Differentiation & specialization-> dividing companies into units-> each w/specific task. Professionals: possess expertise in particular field; allows to accomplish tasks of their position. Formalization-> the standards; the organizational & professional conventions; (2) process-> the actual substance based on that framework; the content. Process= always unique & varies; but always constrained by structure. Organizational perspective-> studies how structure & process mutually influence each other-> and how an organizational culture is created.
