When new info makes sense aka fits our schema it will be easier to recall but may make more difficult to report on specific details. Distinctiveness: when encountering new info some of it will not fit our schemas. Self-schemas begin to develop around the age of 18-24 months. Reason why don"t have memories before age three is because nervous system, memory regions are still developing. We remember events using constructive memory; we first recall a generalized schema and then add in specific details. The past we remember is largely influenced by our mental state and our view of ourselves in the present. This demonstrates that memories are not stable as they can change over time.
