Natural selection = process by which certain adaptive individual characteristics emerge over generations. Ch5: biological aspects of personality the function of a characteristic in survival. Evolutionary personality theory individual diff and motivations are seen as due to either alternative adaptive strategies or to random variation, but it"s difficult to determine the precise causes. Angelman syndrome = a rare genetic disorder caused by a defect on chromosome 15 excessively happy child, esp. attractive and friendly; but suffer mental retardation, sleep very little and walk with a jerky movement. Williams syndrome = rare disorder characterized by physical and developmental problems (e. g. excessively social personality, limited spatial skills & intellectual ability) missing about 2 dozen genes on chromosome 7. Behaviour genomics = the study of how genes affect behaviour some analyze twins adopted or separated at birth to compare nature and nurture (quantitative genetics) some examine the products and correlates of a specific gene (molecular genetics)
