Affective forecasting error: affective forecasting error: tendency to predict that emotional events will cause greater levels of distress & negative affect than is actually the case. Also known as impact bias people"s tendency to overestimate the impact of future events on their emotional reactions. People are consistently wrong when asked to predict the magnitude of distress following emotional events. Romantic breakups are not as upsetting as individuals believe it will be. Those who predict higher rates of distress for themselves actually do experience greater levels of distress. Partners in a romantic relationship are more likely to down-play their actual distress in order to avoid appearing rejected & vulnerable. Loneliness: loneliness: boredom, sadness, & distress that occurs when there is a discrepancy between the number & quality of partnerships we want & those that we actually have. The result of our need to belong not being ful lled.
