Document Summary

Several models to precisely explain genetic recombination in various situations. Genetic recombination requires the following: 2 dna molecules that differ from one another, a mechanism for bringing the dna molecules into close proximity, collection of enzymes to cut exchange and paste dna back together. A simple model of genetic recombination: 2 molecules of dna with similar sequence are brought together into close proximity, enzymes nick the dna backbones, exchange ends and reattach them, the final result is 2 recombined dna molecules. 9. 3: genetic recombination in eukaryotes: meiosis sexual reproduction: the mode of reproduction in which male/female parents produce offspring through the union of egg and sperm generated by meiosis egg/sperm are gametes gametes: a haploid cell; egg or sperm. Haploid cells fuse during sexual reproduction to form a diploid zygote. Without halving the chromosome number by meiotic divisions, fertilization would double the number of chromosomes in each subsequent generation.
