Document Summary

Genome: the haploid set of chromosomes of an organism. A genome is an organism"s complete set of dna, including all of its genes. Each genome contains all of the information needed to build and maintain that organism. In humans, a copy of the entire genome more than 3 billion dna base pairs is contained in all cells that have a nucleus. Linear chromosomes: typically, eukaryotic cells (cells with nuclei) have large linear chromosomes. Rna: the main job of rna is to transfer the genetic code need for the creation of proteins from the nucleus to the ribosome. This process prevents the dna from having to leave the nucleus. This keeps the dna and genetic code protected from damage. Without rna, proteins could never be made. mrna, rrna and trna. Rna is formed from dna by a process called transcription. First a type of rna called messenger rna (mrna) carries information from dna to structures called ribosomes.
