During the time students go to university, there is an increase in risky health behaviours (i. e. decreased physical activity, unhealthy weight, increased substance use) Only 22% of university students meet the weekly guidelines for physical activity. Overweight and healthy weight individuals were more active in comparison to obese individuals. Dietary patterns that develop in university usually persist into adulthood. Low consumption of fruits and vegetables often leads to a chronic disease related to diet. Between males and females, females consume more fruits/vegetables than males. Between males and females, males smoke more than females. Undergraduate and graduate students were selected from the university of toronto and completed the national college health assessment organized by the american college health. Only 0. 1% of students met all guidelines. More males met the mvpa and strength guidelines, while women smoked less. Weight was correlated with mvpa and strength training guidelines.
