Kinesiology 2276F/G Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Dual-Coding Theory, Exercise Intensity, The Relapse
Document Summary
Interventions do not directly change behaviour, but they modify one or more physical activity determinants, which in turn can increase physical activity. In 2002, researchers conducted a comprehensive review of all the studies of physical activity interventions that had been published. For each study, they identified the determinants of physical activity influenced by the interventions; with this information they classified the interventions as using one of the following four approaches: To change knowledge and attitudes about physical activity: informational approaches, behavioural approaches. To teach people the behavioural management skills necessary for both successful adoption and maintenance of behaviour change. To create social environments that facilitate and enhance behaviour change: social approaches, environmental and policy approaches. To change the structure of physical and organizational environments to provide safe, attractive, and convenient places for physical activity (i. e. , physical environments to support physical activity; policies to support physical activity)
