Critical thought and argumentation are cast aside and not seen as a tool that can serve their society instead, weak and faulty arguments that erupt anger and fear can mobilize the population. Developing critical thinkers: critical thinkers-more open to well-reasoned arguments and less open to irrational and emotional arguments. Some argumentation may be the product of egocentric thinking. Not questioning basis of arguments, don"t recognize the rights of others, and they don"t recognize the self-serving perspective of their points of view. 5 types of egocentric thinking: innate egocentrism, innate sociocentrism, innate wish fulfillment, innate self-vaccination, and innate selfishness. Misconception that all conflict and argumentation is bad. Conflict under proper rules and guidelines can be good; helps us to reach compromise and make decisions. Political institutions are designed to ensure a safe and peaceful environment where we can argue, exchange ideas, and resolve conflict. Helps society evolve and grow into something better. Aim should not be victory, but progress.
