A good man is most self sufficient when living. Private citizens should not lie to rulers. Most important aspect of temperance is obeying rulers and abstaining from pleasures. We should teach people not to want pleasures. People are proud to imitate those higher than them but ashamed to do it to those lower. In their city, everyone is in their true position. Poems should imitate good people to educate guardians. Drunkenness, softness, and idleness are inappropriate for guardians. Quality mind = truly good and good character. Good soul by virtues makes a body as good as possible. Imminent doctors and lawyers are needed where education is lacking. Rules must be best of guardians and ruling city, knowledgeable, Departure of mind - voluntary and involuntary. Watching children at young age to see if they should be guardians. Must protect citizens from the warriors so they are not treated badly.
