Bottom-up processing: perception of individual stimulus elements that is combined and interpreted into a unified perception. Top-down processing: existing knowledge, concepts, ideas or expectations are applied to make sense of incoming stimulation (pioneered by gestalt) Perceptual schema: a mental representation or image used to compare with a perception so we can recognize it. Shape constancy recognize ppl and objects from many different angles. Brightness constancy relative brightness of objects remains the same under different conditions of illumination. Size constancy size of objects remains constant even though images on our retina change in size with change in distance.
