Document Summary

Circadian rhythms: daily cycles, allows you to maximize different things at different times, blood pressure, body temperature, chemical concentrations, 25-hour clock, peak levels in late afternoon (best time for physical tasks) Suprachiasmatic nucleus: area of brain in hypothalamus in control of all of this stuff (alter concentrations as much as necessary) Jet lag & shift work: phase advance more difficult than phase delay, ex. Seems safe: more effective for delay, probably works by relieving daytime fatigue, wont really work with just normal tiredness just jet leg and shift work, avoiding jet lag, hydrate on plane. Chapter 6: consciousness: avoid alcohol, get up and stretch, light meals, expose self to sunlight upon arrival, to do a reset. Consciousness: awareness of the relationship between self and the external world, monitoring - keeping track of self, control - planning, conscious planning works, unconscious planning does not work.
