What do i have to emphasize when singing. People grow bored with sounds they can"t understand. To sing clearly is harder than speaking clearly. Giving full length and tone to syllables that might be very weak, or even omitted, in conversational speech. Carrying the voice higher than it goes in normal speech. Free and resonant speaking voice furnishes best foundation and model for singing. If your regular speaking voice is timid, breathy, dull, unpleasantly twangy etc your singing will suffer too. Must be recognizable and distinct from each other. Accents or regional speech habits are distracting or confusing to people from other areas. Area of vocal technique related to making words clear. When we do these well and add phrasing and expression, we have good diction. Diction must match style of the occasion and the style of the music. As singers, we think in terms of sounds rather than letters.
