Document Summary
Ongoing concern for therapist is whether set goals are appropriate for client and relivant to their health needs while also being accomplishable through music therapy. 4 criteria for ensuring the integrity of client goals: music therapy goals must be relevant to client"s health needs, music therapy goals must be appropriately delimited in number and in variety. Therapy cannot address every need of the client. Such claims should not be made: music therapy goals must be feasible. Client must have capability and support system needed to achieve set goals. Music therapy must have potential of accomplishing these goals: music therapy must be formulated at the appropriate level of specificty. Working with some clients more effective when very specific outcomes are specified at the get go. Working with other clients more affective when goals emerge as the work progresses. Therapist may chose to use one method exclusively. Or a combination of methods in each session.
