Premature babies have higher risk of later neurodevelopmental problems. Goal of neonatal care has shifted from mere survival to preventation of major diabilities. Brain development in premature infants is different and not delayed. Music therapy provides important tool in supporting both infant and parents. Auditive stimulation with the mother"s voice is a receptive form of music therapy. Fetus"s ability to perceive acoustal perceptions has been definitively and empirically established as early as 18 weeks gestational age. Impact of voice created not so much by discursive content, but by presentative content of the voice and its emotional message. Emotional carrier representing the mother as a whole being. The mother"s voice builds a bridge between her and baby. During prenatal period, voice is also important in development of intra-psychological exponents, provided the neuro-physiological prerequisites exist. Mother"s voice is not physical therefore baby can"t control it. It therefore challenges the primary sensation of fusional at-one-ness and stimulate protoforms of introjective mental processes.
