Primary focus of rehabilitation program during initial period post-trauma is addressing functional outcomes. Specifically physical, cognitive, communicative, and activities of daily living. Current understanding that early intervention maximizes functional outcomes. Case illustrates how mt interventions, specifically melodic intonation therapy, target functional outcomes while stimultaneously responding to the psychological adjustment of the client. Neurorehabilitation setting = working together with clients, interdisciplinary team members and family. Goal is to reduce the severity of the acquired impairment. Clients may be in a coma and require high level of care.
