Obturator test: also performed when there is appendicitis being suspected. Person in supine position, lift right leg, flexing hip at 90 degrees at the knee. ; hold the ankle and rotate the leg internally and externally. Negative test = person feels no pain. Inspection: inspect the umbilical cord throughout neonatal period. At birth the umbilical cord is white and contains 1 vein and 2 umbilical arteries surrounded by a mucoid connective tissue called, wharton"s jelly. The umbilical stump dries within a week, hardens and falls off by day 1-14; skin covers area within 3-4 weeks. The abdomen should be symmetrical, but 2 bulges are common. Umbilical hernia: appears at 2-3 weeks and prominent when baby cries no shit: hernia reaches maximum size at 1 month (up to 2. 5 cm) and disappears within 1 year. Diastasis recti: seperation of rectus muscle with a visible bulge along the midline: more common in african decent, and disappears by early childhood.
