In a three dimensional plane the z-axis is added. This describes depth: this proves to be the most flexible screen dimension in film and video. Overlapping plane: most direct graphic cue, when one thing is overlapped by another. Relative size: the larger an object with a known size appears relative to the screen, the closer it seems to the viewer and vise versa. Height in plane: we perceive objects more distant the higher they are in the picture field. Arial perspective: we see objects that are close to us as more sharp than those far away. Depth characteristics of lenses: choice of lens is important in achieving a certain feel . Overlapping planes: wide-angle lens: the wide-angle lens doesn"t rely on overlapping planes like the narrow-angle but cannot avoid showing them, objects on the z-axis look more stretched out with this lens which renders overlapping planes less essential.
