Unit 2 chapter 16 : types of joint motion and musculoskeletal assessment. Section 16. 1 active versus passive range of motion. Joint play : a small amount of nonaxial gliding motion beyond passive rom: passive motion becaues it cannot be created by the mover muscles of the joint. Dislocation is beyond the point of joint play. If empty end-feel occurs because of the presence of actual pain, it is indicative of a pathologic condition. Section 16. 2 resisted motion / manual resistance. Musculoskeletal conditions are either injury to the musculature and the associated tendons of a joint, or to the ligament and joint capsule complex of a joint. The basis of an assessment test procedure is that it challenges a structure by placing a stress on it. If a structure is healthy, it will be able to meet this stress in a symptom-free manner and the result of the test procedure is declared negative.
