Assess the modern presidency from a democratic perspective: key terms. Imperial presidency: the origin and evolution of the presidency. What has changed domestically and abroad that has required the role of the presidency to change too: the multiple roles of the modern president. The constitution is silent about executive privilege, but even the early president"s claimed this, esp in foreign affairs/defense/national security. Us v nixon (1974): can"t be used to impede criminal investigations. Executive orders: fairly modern development which has allowed the president to intrude into administration vs congress.
