CAS AR 101 Chapter Notes - Chapter 8: Lindow Man, Christopher Dean, Terracotta Army
Document Summary
Individual hairs have been found that can be ideniied as human. When the physical remains of a body have disappeared evidence someimes remains such as the hollows let by bodies in pompeii as they disintegrated in their hardened casings of volcanic ash. Modern plaster casts show hairstyles, clothing, appearance, posture, and facial expression at ime of death. Direct evidence comes from actual bones but indirect evidence can come from art. If that is not present, then breasts and facial hair are good indicators. Sexual dimorphism, or the diference in sizes and shapes of bones also helps. The best indicator is the shape of the pelvis. Male bones are bigger, longer, more robust, and have more developed muscle markings than females. Its harder to difereniate sex for children but teeth are good indicators. Dna analysis has helped this ield of study immensely. The microscopic growth of tooth enamel forms ridges that can be counted.
