PSYC-101 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Classical Conditioning, Behaviorism, Anti-Social Behaviour
Document Summary
Reflex - motor/neural reaction to a stimulus; i. e. knee-jerk reaction. Instinct - innate behavior triggered by environment or outside stimulus; i. e. a bird flying south for the winter. Require higher brain functioning, but still arise from the unconscious. Learning - permanent change in knowledge and/or behavior from experience. Associative learning - making connections between stimuli/behaviors in the environment. Present in any and all types of learning. Relies on both conscious and unconscious processes to different degrees. Associate stimuli with an event in order to anticipate an event. Was doing physiology experiments on dogs and found that they salivated at non-food stimulus (ie empty bowl) Trained dogs to salivate at various non-food triggers - a bell, light, touch. Unconditioned stimulus ucs - stimulus that reflexively elicits a response. Unconditioned response ucr - reflexive response to a stimulus. Neural stimulus cs - a stimulus that would normally not create a response.
