GRC 324 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Flexography, Folding Carton, Plywood
Document Summary
Die cut in situations when cuts are not straight. Removing a window or other cavity from within the paper. Dies less expensive and quicker to make. Used for folding carton, corrugated, point-of-purchase, commercial products. Die board: plywood (0. 5 in. or 0. 625 in. ) Die line: place where steel will be inserted into die board. Bridges: interruptions in the cut so cut-out shape stays in board/does not fall through. Notches: cuts in steel rule where bridges are. Scoring rule: shorter than cutting rule so it doesn"t cut through paper completely. Nicks: intentional flaws in cutting rule so cut out pieces can be intentionally separated later. Ejection rubber: forces paper away from die after cut. Lock-up: process of inserting the die into a metal frame (chase) Stripping: removing paper waste from press sheet at designated time. Blanking: removing finished product from press sheet at designated time. Used on narrow-web presses (flexo and gravure) Depth of cut can be precisely controlled.
