Emancipation proclamation (1863): proclamation by abraham lincoln that freed the slaves living in confederate states. Guerrilla: a member of a group taking part in irregular fighting (i. e. spying on, sabotaging, attacking enemies) Hard war: union"s policy that targeted the ability of confederates to fight by destroying infrastructure, transportation networks, and food supplies for the army. Secession: act of formally withdrawing from an existing union with another political state. Colored troops (usct): african american troops consisting of free black men and former slaves. Enlisted for the union army after the emancipation proclamation of 1863.
