Food & drugs have different effects on the body heating or cooling : not thermal effects. Diseases are result of bodily imbalances too hot or cold. Euro america feed a cold, starve a fever . Heat & coolness differ in cultural systems: islamic, india, china too cold = primary cause of death, orang asli excessive heat = primary cause of mortality. Treatment of illness reduce or remove heat. Self treatment 1st consideration in dealing a perceived health problem. Cultures recognize people w/special abilities: midwife, bonesetter, herbalist, gp, chiropractor, dentist and hospice, shaman:**, healer who mediates between humans and spirit world. Non-biomedical healing specialization decline due: pressures from and competition w/ west medicine, midwifery endangered, birth more medicine in hospitals than home, no longer support themselves abandon profession.
