Stolen goods coltan and conflict in the drc. In the drc, 73,000 people die a month, 4 million in 3 years. Many of the hospitals have been destroyed leaving 18. 5 million people without any access to health care. Preventable diseases and starvation have caused the majority of the deaths. In some cities 75% of the children born during the war die before they can even turn 2 years old. The international community has inexplicably distanced themselves from the drc. The armies of uganda, rwanda, and the congo have ruthlessly exploited the region for its minerals. Columbium and tantalum compose what is known as coltan, an essential but rare mineral. Coltan is an incredibly powerful mineral used in high tech stuff like phones, computers, planes, ships, (cid:373)issles et(cid:272). The drc holds the (cid:449)orld"s largest (cid:272)olta(cid:374) reserve. Congolese coltan enters the market unnoticed and untraceable. Rwanda and uganda have also been in the coltan business.
