Nature of crimes, crime: any act or omission forbidden by public law in the interest of protecting society and made punishable by the government in a judicial proceedings brought by it. Also, victim must have knowledge that otherwise, would make the assault non criminal. You must be connected to what is being battered for it to be considered the battery. Consists of: wrongful or overt act(actus reus, all non mental elements of the crime, physical act that must be performed, the consequences of the act, the circumstances under which it must be performed ii. The criminal intent(mens rea: mental fault/ mental element of crime, subjective fault: purposeful, knowing, and reckless i. Person acts purposefully and intentionally if his conscious object is to engage in prohibited conduct. ii. Person acts knowingly if he is aware conduct will be prohibited iii. Sale of alcohol to a minor: classification i. Felony: a serious crime punishable by death or imprisonment in a penitentiary.
