This question can reproduce inequality because by asking there is an underlining assumption that the person you are asking does not belong here or that they are different from the normal (less status than you) Approaches to ethnicity: primordialist approach to ethnicity. Ex- you are born chinese not learning the culture: constructivist approach to ethnicity- half japanese half irish you will celebrate st. patrick day on that day therefore you are irish that day. If you found a job interview for a japanese restaurant you will be japanese that day. Therefore, there are degrees of flexibility to ethnicity.
