5th story assignment story basics- heart of darkness. Soon, we come to realize that this uneasiness that people feel around the manager is meant to keep workers (and others) under his control. The brickmaker: he is known to be one of the manager"s favorites, and many of the other agents perceive him as a spy, marlow questions why he is here since there aren"t any bricks anywhere. The brickmaker gives marlow his first bit of information about kurtz. Imperialism: marlow"s reaction and description of these groups reinforces the central idea of marlow"s disagreement with imperialism. Heart of darkness is the story of marlow, a sailor, and his tale his journey into the congo jungle. As marlow begins his journey down the congo river, he describes the scenery as dark, ominous, and death-like. When he arrives at the station, marlow is confused and is surprised by the inefficiency of the workers and the horrible treatment of the natives (workers).
