Microstates do not have the attributes of complete states but are on the map as tiny, yet separate entities: examples are monaco and liechtenstein. Core-periphery is the contrasting spatial characteristics of, and linkages between, the have (core) and have not (periphery) components of a national, regional or the global system. Europe is composed of homogeneous cultural regions, but the realm functions as a tightly interdependent economic and political regional system, a spatial network that revolves around the eu. Eight states form the mainland core of europe: germany, france, belgium, Netherlands, luxembourg, switzerland, austria and the czech republic. Germany contains europe"s largest economy: second largest export economy. After wwii west germany was reorganized politically into a modern federal state based on democratic foundations: marshall plan helped the economy to rapidly recover, transport infrastructure was also rapidly rebuilt. Advancement was not seen in east germany, and it continues to be in the lowest income category.
