Scientific writing: how scientific findings are disseminated, journal publication. Submit a proposal (200-500 words) --> peer reviewed. Paper session/symposium -- 15-20 minutes to present/answer questions from audience. Poster session: personal contact, elements of good scientific writing, organization, clarity -- sentence construction + word choice. Avoid using jargon: conciseness, "the data were analyzed, female and male are used as adjectives, proofreading and rewriting, avoiding biased language, gender-neutral language. Sexist lang --> ambiguity: generic pronouns- use plural form, the word man --- use gender neutral alternatives, nonequivalent forms, other language pitfalls. Avoid labels -- put ppl first followed by a descriptive phrase about them. Racial and ethnic identity: parts of a manuscript, apa style, title page: title (<12 words), authors, affiliations, author note, abstract: problem, participants, research procedures, findings, conclusions/implications. Introduction: review of previous work in that topic; past tense. Up to 6 authors, must include all six authors when mentioning in paper (last name, year: reference list.
