Document Summary

The heart"s job is the pump into the vessels, which carry it to all organs and tissues and back again to the heart. The heart has four chambers: two atria and two ventricles. The anterior and posterior interventricular sulci mark the position of the septum on the anterior and posterior side of the heart. The right heart is the pump for the pulmonary circuit. The left heart is the pump for the systemic circuit. The pulmonary circuit is a short, low-pressure circulation, while the systemic circuit is a much longer circulation with higher pressure. Equal volumes of blood are pumped through the pulmonary and systemic circuit at any given time. There"s a third smaller circulation that drains supplies the heart muscle itself with blood and drains it into the right atrium. This circuit is called coronary circulation: its major arteries are, right and left coronary artery, marginal artery, circumflex artery, anterior and posterior interventricular artery.
